Some portraits are about presence as much as appearance.
Grouped Together features two juvenile Longhorns standing side by side against a deep black backdrop, their youthful forms captured in striking black and white. United in quiet companionship, they embody innocence and strength in harmonious contrast.
I’ve long been drawn to photographing animals rooted in stillness. In Grouped Together, the Longhorns’ emerging horns and soft, unweathered faces tell a story of life at the threshold between youth and maturity.
Photographing them was an exercise in patience and respect. Cattle are naturally curious, but they also guard their space. Standing just far enough away, letting them grow comfortable in my presence, I watched as they instinctively drifted closer to one another — a small but significant gesture of trust and kinship.
Rendered in monochrome, the image strips away distraction, allowing light to carve their forms from the darkness. It’s a study in contrasts: fragility and fortitude, individuality and unity.
