Some images feel earned—not found.
In Flight was captured in July 2025 during my first intentional foray into hummingbird photography. It’s a black-and-white portrait of a hummingbird mid-hover, wings blurred in motion, outlined sharply against soft, out-of-focus foliage.
It wasn’t planned. It was the convergence of observation, timing, and light. I’d spent hours simply watching the hummers—tiny, restless — until the moment it paused long enough for me to see both its motion and stillness at once.
The monochromatic palette strips away color, demanding attention to form, rhythm, and presence. Every feather becomes architecture. Every wingbeat—though too fast for eyes—is made visible in shades of gray. It’s a dance rendered in silence.
In Flight belongs to my Land & Light Collection, a series devoted to capturing spiritual resonance in the natural world—the unseen grace and quiet power found in unexpected places.
