Held in Motion

Limited Edition Fine Art Print – July 2025

There's a moment between wingbeats—so fleeting it’s nearly invisible to the eye—where everything aligns. In Held in Motion, that moment is preserved.

This black and white hummingbird portrait captures the rare stillness within motion. Shot in natural light with incredible feather detail, this image defies the expectations of how hummingbirds are typically seen: fast, blurred, elusive. Instead, this piece invites the viewer into a quiet, almost meditative pause—crisp textures, frozen wings, and a reverence for light and form.

What makes this image even more meaningful is that it was created during my very first time intentionally photographing hummingbirds. I never once expected to make an image this sharp—or this striking—on my first attempt. The color version was beautiful in its own right, with the iridescence of the bird catching light in dazzling ways. But in black and white, the distraction of glimmer falls away. You're left to truly see the bird—the texture, the gesture, the soul—without the glitz of color.

A version of this image may appear in my upcoming 2026 collector’s hummingbird calendar, but that release will not be a fine art offering—this limited edition print is the only way to own the image in its truest, most detailed form.
